Airstream & National Forest Foundation
Campsight Cleanup Campaign
It’s no secret that due the the recent partial government shutdown, millions of acres of National Forest land was left unattended by federal workers. The unattended maintenance had left thousands of campsites, scores of restrooms, and over a hundred thousand miles of roads and trails in need of cleanup, repair and restoration before visitation could begin again.
Airstream has stepped in and launched their “Campsite Cleanup Campaign” to reduce the backlog that has been affecting our forests. Airstream has pledged every dollar raised to go directly to the National Forest Foundation in an effort to restore campsites and campground facilities, as well as restore and improve access to roads left neglected by the partial government shutdown.
As part of Airstream’s Leave It Beautiful Program, the company will match every dollar given to the National Forest Foundation (the non-profit partner of the U.S. Forest Service) up to $25,000.
Our National Forests and 20 National Grasslands contain some of the nation’s most beautiful wildlife, pristine public lands, and 5,100 campsites — all of which are open to campers for most of the year, often for free or low cost.
Chartered by Congress as the official non-profit partner of the United States Forest Service, the National Forest Foundation’s mission is to assist the Forest Service care for and maintain the nation’s forests for the benefit of generations to come. The NFF gets it’s funding from donations of individuals and businesses and engages Americans in community-based and national programs that promote the health and public enjoyment of the 154 National Forests and 20 National Grasslands.
In June 2018, Airstream President and CEO Bob Wheeler was been nominated to the volunteer Board of Directors of the National Forest Foundation (NFF).
